5 – Blue Lagoon Seafood Master

Located at the Chinese Centre on Dundas Street is Blue Lagoon Seafood Master (you gotta love that name!), a higher-end Chinese food and dim sum restaurant. As you walk in, you are greeted by a wall full of sea creatures that are at your disposal to eat fresh. You will see everything from huge Alaskan king crabs to lobsters to eel to fresh fish swimming in blue tanks. This place is absolutely massive and can easily seat 250 people. There are four huge projection screens that were teaching diners how to properly cook Chinese food. We tried the set dinner for two which came with braised blue lagoon soup, eel that was freshly skinned for us minutes before, deep-fried lobster Hong Kong-style, oysters, lobster soup, fish soup and dessert for $98. Although this dinner was made for two, it could have easily fed three. This place is a bit on the pricey side, but the food is very high quality and flavourful. The dim sum is costly as well, but the menu items are a little higher-end. As you can tell by the name, this place does specialize in seafood but does have some traditional non-seafood dishes like Peking duck and sweet and sour pork.

4 – Marco Polo

Marco Polo Restobar is another new restaurant in the Clarkson neighbourhood – a welcome addition to the oldest community in Mississauga. The menu focuses on North American gastropub food with a Mediterranean twist. The plates are smaller which makes it ideal for sharing and getting a taste of what the creative and innovative menu has to offer. The menu includes a sharable section, big plates, greens and leafy things, in between the buns and grilled flatbreads. They even have a dish named after both Oliveira’s and Capin’s moms called Anna Maria. Other menu items include wings, layered nachos, piri piri shrimp tacos, charcuterie for two, mac & cheese, steak frites, porchetta burger and a variety of flatbreads.

3 – Apricot Tree

Franz and Esther Hochholdinger have been a local staple of Mississauga’s cuisine since 1993 serving many Austrian dish favorites and desserts at their quaint European inspired cafe called Apricot Tree Cafe. The roots of the Apricot Tree at one point only focused on the dessert creations that Pastry Chef Franz was known for, but today it operates as a full service restaurant which is located in the Sherwood Forrest Village. Apricot Tree also serves a delicious lunch and dinner menu that has everything from Braised Short Ribs to lamb shank.

2 – Maharaja

The Maharaja is an incredibly stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the regal beauty of India’s diverse landscape of architecture and flavours. The concept offers a visual and culinary journey through three magnificent palaces of India and a menu featuring cuisine from four different regions in India.  The storybook menu is divided into four regional cuisines found in India which have been influenced by various ingredients and flavours of a variety of countries including Greece, West and Central Asia and Persia.  There are a number of shareable dishes and entrees highlighting the unique flavours of each region through Awadhi cuisine, classic Hyderabadi cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and Rajputana cuisine. The extensive menu caters to all palates and features distinct regional dishes presented on fine dishes such as copper bowls, slate boards, and copper table top grill.

1 – Corner by Spoon and Fork

The popular brand is a family run business, well known for their contribution to the Asian restaurant scene having started their first Japanese restaurant called Prince Japanese Steakhouse back in 1996. Food Menu: Corner’s Asian and European menu includes a wide variety of options that include freshly baked pastries (croissants, scones, muffins, brownies, donuts, danishes, cinnamon buns); sushi burritos, poke bowls, desserts (French macarons, tarts, cupcakes, cakes); all day breakfast (benedicts, omelettes, breakfast sandwiches, pancakes, french toast); sushi trays (made fresh daily and on-site). The Mum Bowl is a fun Thai-inspired menu where you can mix and match over 50 different ingredient options to create your own personalized dish.
