5) Maharaja
The Maharaja is an incredibly stunning boutique restaurant inspired by the regal beauty of India’s diverse landscape of architecture and flavours. The concept offers a visual and culinary journey through three magnificent palaces of India and a menu featuring cuisine from four different regions in India. The storybook menu is divided into four regional cuisines found in India which have been influenced by various ingredients and flavours of a variety of countries including Greece, West and Central Asia and Persia. There are a number of shareable dishes and entrees highlighting the unique flavours of each region through Awadhi cuisine, classic Hyderabadi cuisine, Punjabi cuisine and Rajputana cuisine. The extensive menu caters to all palates and features distinct regional dishes presented on fine dishes such as copper bowls, slate boards, and copper table top grill.

Located in an unassuming strip plaza on Dundas between Tomken and Dixie is a unique sandwich shop called Holy Smokez BBQ Sandwiches. It’s unique because we really haven’t seen many BBQ-style joints in Mississauga. All the sandwiches are not only barbequed, but cooked over indirect heat and smoked with wood for as long as 18 hours. You will find BBQ sandwiches such as smoked sausage, pulled pork, and pork ‘n’ slaw. You’ll start salivating just reading the menu.
Located in the heart of Port Credit beside the Starbucks is Captain Robin’s Family Restaurant. If dishes of gigantic portions are your thing, then this place is for you. Three Stooges has all the classic breakfast dishes with fun local names like the “Port Credit Breakfast Platter” which consists of 2 pancakes, 4 large eggs, a double serving of their famous hash browns and Texas toast. They also have lunch and dinner on the menu where you can order some great classics including the #1 Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich in the city!
Emerald Chinese Restaurant has a lot going for it. The selection is wonderful, the servers are helpful, the space is plentiful and the location perfect (if not a little confusing, but more on that later). Almost always packed on weekends, Emerald is popular for a reason. Once you realize you need to enter the Eglinton building from Hurontario, it’s easy enough to find. You won’t have trouble finding a parking spot, and with the resto located at a major intersection just steps away from Square One, you can easily make your way there by bus. The carts are constantly coming, and you can choose from a wide selection of steamed, pan-fried, deep-fried and congee dishes. The lotus leaf-wrapped sticky rice is exceptional, with massive, flavourful chunks of sausage embedded in the starchy treat. The interior is that of a classic Chinese restaurant, complete with colourful dragons and hanging lanterns.
1) Rogues
Rogues has been around for over 30 years and is the go-to anniversary dinner spot for your parents, your parents’ friends and all your elementary school teachers. During my tender and formative years, I learned that Rogues–the long-standing fine-dining gem on Dundas Street West–was a destination for ultra-fancy couples who were refined, sophisticated and okay with the idea of accidentally hobnobbing with frenemy neighbours on Mother’s Day. For a long time, it was probably the city’s most recognizable and well-known high-end resto and it had a reputation for serving up succulent Italian and Mediterranean fare (which it still does). This place may be old school, but it’s iconic and, judging by its Facebook page, sometimes attended by Hazel McCallion.
